The Morning Intention Ritual

The Morning Intention Ritual

Before you check your phone. Before the list starts. Before anyone needs anything from you.

Most mornings start in reaction mode. The alarm goes off and you're already behind — scrolling emails, answering texts, mentally triaging the day before your feet hit the floor.

This ritual reclaims the first two minutes. Not with a complicated morning routine you'll abandon by Thursday. Just scent and breath and one clear thought.

THE RITUAL

1. Before you pick up your phone, apply Mount Marcy lotion to your hands and wrists. (Or keep a room spray on your nightstand and give one spritz into the air above you.)

2. Rub your palms together slowly. Cup them over your nose and mouth.

3. Inhale for four counts. Hold for two. Exhale for six. Do this three times.

4. On your last exhale, set one intention for the day. Not a to-do — an intention. "I'm going to be patient today." "I'm going to protect my energy." "I'm going to do one thing that's just for me." That's it. You're ready.

WHY IT WORKS

Mandarin is energizing without being aggressive — it wakes up the mind without spiking cortisol the way caffeine does. Basil sharpens focus. Together, they create a clean, bright headspace that's perfect for intention-setting. The physical act of rubbing lotion into your hands adds a tactile anchor — your body remembers the ritual even when your mind is already racing ahead.
